  • Student Appeals

    The Student Appeals Committee is established to safeguard the rights and interests of students living and studying at the university so as to create a harmonious campus.
    ※Appeal procedures:
    A student who receives a letter of notification for a disciplinary resolution is eligible to appeal through a due administrative procedure. Should an administrative resolution fail, the student may proceed to appeal in a written form to the Student Appeals Committee within thirty days of being notified of the resolution. The appeals form is available from the download section on the homepage of the Office of Student Affairs.

    FAQ for Student Appeals

    Q1: I have questions about my grades. What should I do before I make an appeal?
    A1: If you have questions about your grades, you can first bring your transcript to request a review of grades. If you are still dissatisfied with the outcome of the review, you may consider lodging an appeal.

    Q2: Who can make an appeal?
    A2: THU students, Student Association and other related student organizations can launch an appeal.

    Q3: How can a student file an appeal?
    A3: When a student has a grievance concerning the school’s disciplinary punishments, related measures or resolutions, which are viewed as harming his/her right or interests, the student has the right to make an appeal to the Student Grievance Committee (Article 2 of the Regulations on Student Grievances and Appeals).

    Q4: Is there any time period to lodge an appeal?
    A4: Anyone who is dissatisfied with the school’s disciplinary punishments, relative measures or resolutions, should appeal by a written statement to the Student Grievance Committee within 30 working days after the date he/she received the notice. If the appeal application was submitted late due to reasons not imputed from the pleader himself/herself, he/she may write a written statement to the Student Grievance Committee to request for an extension within fifteen days after the cessation of the reason. However, the late appeal over one year is not allowed for extension (Article 10 of the Regulations on Student Grievances and Appeals).

    Q5: Where do students get the appeal petition form?
    A5: The appeal petition form is offered at the Office of Student Affairs or it can be downloaded on the website of the Office of Student Affairs. Pleader must submit the appeal petition form to the Office of Student Affairs or mail it to the Student Grievances Committee of the Office of Student Affairs to complete the appeal application.

    Q6: How long will the appeal outcome be released?
    A6: The appeal will be processed within 30 working days after the date the application is received. However, the appeal during the winter/summer vacation will be processed within one week after the registration date of the following semester. The process period may be extended one time only if needed and the extension cannot be longer than two months. However, the process period of appeals involving in dropout, expulsion, or similar disciplinary punishments cannot be extended (Article 11 of the Regulations on Student Grievances and Appeals). The pleader must be informed of the decision of the extension. In addition, the pleader may receive the outcome of the appeal decision within one month after the meeting of the Student Grievance Committee.

    Q7: Once an appeal is lodged, is it possible to withdraw the appeal?
    A7: The pleader may withdraw his/her appeal before the Grievance Committee members make the decision (Article 17 of the Regulations on Student Grievances and Appeals).The pleader has to fill in the withdrawal form of appeal petition and submit the form to the Office of Student Affairs. Then the withdrawal procedure is completed. The withdrawal form of the appeal petition is offered at the Office of Student Affairs or it can be downloaded on the website of the Office of Student Affairs.

    The University values the health and safety of every individual on campus and expects its students to treat other persons with respect and dignity. The mission of Committee is to establish a safe and friendly environment for every member in the campus.
    A person who believes that he or she has been subjected to sex discrimination or sexual harassment should report the incident to any University official, administrator or supervisor. The Committee of Gender Equity Education investigates all complaints. Incidents should be reported as soon as possible after the time of their occurrence. All information is protected.

    3. Don’t bathe or douche.
    4. Save your clothing.
    5. Report the incident to the police or the campus security center
    6. To contact police, call 119 or the THU campus security center 04-23590303 or 04-23509595, 24-hours a day. A number of university staff members are willing and able to assist victims in reporting assaults to the proper authorities.

    FAQ for Sexual Assault and Other Information

    Q1、What is sexual harassment?
    A1、Sexual harassment is a common yet unwelcome phenomenon in Taiwan’s society and is prohibited by GEEA. Sexual harassment cases are defined by the following:
    (1) Unwelcome remarks or conduct that explicitly or implicitly carry a sexually or gender discriminating connotation, thereby adversely affecting the other party’s dignity, or the opportunity or performance of her or his learning or work.
    (2) A conduct of sexual or gendered nature that is served as the condition for oneself or others to gain or lose rights or interests in learning or work.
